Unique Scottish slate long earrings. Every stone is one of a kind.

Slate stone was hand-picked from the beaches on Isle of Easdale, Scotland, which in the 19th century has been filled with slate mining villages where gunpowder was used to blast the slate pits at the time. By 1880 the main pit grew to be over 75 metres deep and nearly 250 feet under the sea level with only thin stone walls to keep the sea out. Then, in late 1881 a violent storm raged on resulting in the mines getting flooded; luckily the pits of Isle of Seal were unmanned at the time, but over 240 families have lost their only means of support and severe poverty ensued in the area. After the tragedy, little bits of slate have been washing ashore locally ever since.
